Hello STEP Students,
Here are the announcements for this week:
- Friday, February 11 we will be taking students to ASU Downtown Campus for a campus tour. We will meet in the TRIO Office at 7:45 a.m. for a prompt 8:00 a.m. departure. After the tour, we will have lunch and then tour the Body Worlds exhibit at the AZ Science Center. We should return to campus by approximately 5:00 p.m. Please stop by the office to complete paperwork if you are interested in attending. This tour will be limited to the first 13 students who sign up, so don’t delay!
- Saturday, February 12 is College Goal Saturday here at SMCC from 2-4 p.m. Financial Aid Staff will be available to help you complete your 2011-2012 FAFSA. Remember, you don’t want to miss the March 1 priority deadline. For more information, see this link http://blog.southmountaincc.edu/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=87.
- We will be rescheduling the U of A Campus Tour, originally scheduled on Friday, February 18. We will update you as soon as the new date of the campus tour is available.
- The MCBAA Scholarship is now available on the MCBAA website http://www.maricopa.edu/mcbaa/scholarships.php Click on the link listed as MCBAA on the upper left hand side of the page. It is due February 25.
- The BSU at SMCC has Graduation Application scholarships available. See the application here http://students.southmountaincc.edu/NR/rdonlyres/F5D7E606-70B3-4CE9-9475-3F7FF7DF3514/5920/ScholarshipApplication2011.pdf. The deadline to apply is Monday, February 28.
- The Nina Mason Scholarship Application is available at this website https://www.maricopa.edu/studentaffairs/NMPLS/Nina/Ninaapp.php or in the Financial Aid Office. Keep in mind this scholarship has very specific requirements for applicants. You have to be in foster care, have physical disabilities or be an adult with dependent children to be eligible to apply.
- Laura Smith, the STEP Academic Advisor, will be keeping later hours on Wednesdays to accommodate those students who need evening academic advising. EVERY WEDNESDAY, Laura’s hours will be from 10:30a.m.-7 p.m. Please call 602.305.5676 to make an appointment to see Laura.
- If you need to request a letter of recommendation from a TRIO Staff member, please complete a Letter of Recommendation request form, found in the TRIO Conference Room and attach a copy of your personal statement, resume, and information about the scholarship. You need to request the letter directly from Ruben, Laura, Sylvia, or Karen. Please allow AT LEAST one week before the due date to give staff enough time to write the letter for you. Also, if your scholarship asks for two or three letters, you will likely want to request one letter from a TRIO Staff member and the other two or three letters from your professors or other club advisors to make your application more competitive and likely to receive the scholarship.
Have a great week!
