Hello STEP Students,
We have a few announcements for this week:
- Tuesday, February 1 from 12:15-1:15 we are offering a Calculator Workshop. This is your chance to learn how to use your graphing calculator! This is the only time this semester we will offer this workshop, so don’t miss out!
- We have added a new workshop to the schedule. Thursday, February 3 we will offer a Resume Workshop from 12:15-1:15 taught by Natalie Huddlestein from Career Services. Is your resume up to date? Many scholarships require you to submit an updated resume. Come by to learn how to make your resume stand out from the rest.
- Friday, February 4 we will be taking students to ASU Tempe Campus for a campus tour. We will meet in the TRIO Office at 8:30 a.m. for a prompt 8:45 departure. We should return at approximately 2:30 p.m. Please stop by the office to complete paperwork if you are interested in attending. We have limited space for this tour, so don’t delay signing up.
- The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities National Internship Program, which provides students with paid corporate and federal internships, is currently promoting it’s Summer 2011 program. Application Process: Application is online and requires a resume and essay. Click here to access. All majors should apply. Deadline to apply: February 25, 2011.
- Laura Smith, the STEP Academic Advisor, will be keeping later hours on Wednesdays to accommodate those students who need evening academic advising. EVERY WEDNESDAY, Laura’s hours will be from 10:30a.m.-7 p.m. Please call 602.305.5676 to make an appointment to see Laura.
- The Nina Mason Scholarship Application is available at this website https://www.maricopa.edu/studentaffairs/NMPLS/Nina/Ninaapp.php or in the Financial Aid Office. Keep in mind this scholarship has very specific requirements for applicants. You have to be in foster care, have physical disabilities or be an adult with dependent children to be eligible to apply.
- Maricopa is pleased to offer a Transfer Scholarship page at the following website http://www.maricopa.edu/transfer/partners/scholarships.php. Check it out to find more transfer scholarships!
- If you need to request a letter of recommendation from a TRIO Staff member, please complete a Letter of Recommendation request form, found in the TRIO Conference Room and attach a copy of your personal statement, resume, and information about the scholarship. You need to request the letter directly from Ruben, Laura, Sylvia, or Karen. Please allow AT LEAST one week before the due date to give staff enough time to write the letter for you. Also, if your scholarship asks for two or three letters, you will likely want to request one letter from a TRIO Staff member and the other two or three letters from your professors or other club advisors to make your application more competitive and likely to receive the scholarship.
Hope you have a great week!
