Apply for the Martens Scholarship!

This scholarship is available to STEP students who meet all of the following criteria:

• Preference shall be given to “adult” students – those who have interrupted their education to work or raise a family and are now seeking further education to better themselves.
• Preference shall be given to “average” students whose grade point average in high school or a prior college experience reflects C or B work.
• To be eligible a student must enroll in a minimum of nine credits per semester.
  

Scholarships shall be awarded each semester. Prior recipients of a Martens scholarship are eligible for continuing scholarship support for up to six semesters provided they maintain at least a C average, complete at least nine credits per semester and are otherwise making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree or certificate. Students previously awarded a scholarship may “stop out” from their coursework one time for not more than two semesters and be eligible to reapply for a Martens scholarship upon resuming their studies.

A committee at South Mountain Community College will work with Foundation staff to select scholarship recipients.

To apply, please submit the following documents to the STEP Office no later than April 17 at 4:30 p.m.:

1. A 250-500 essay explaining your financial need and your academic and career plans. You should also discuss how you meet the criteria for the scholarship. Please type your essay using 12 point, Times New Roman font. Be sure to proofread your essay before submitting it.

2. An unofficial copy of your transcript. You can print this from the MyMaricopa website.

3. A Martens Scholarship Application form.
