STEP This Week 4/5-4/9

Hello STEP Students,

We have several announcements/events this week:

  • Tuesday, April 6 we will have a Personal Statement Workshop at 12:15 in the TRiO Office. If you have not developed a personal statement to apply for scholarships, this is the workshop for you! This is the last Personal Statement Workshop we will have this semester. Don’t miss out!
  • Thursday, April 8, we will have a Maximize Your Library Research Workshop at 12:15 taught by librarian Lora Largo. This is your chance to figure out how to utilize the many wonderful resources available to SMCC Students for free!
  • The Martens Scholarship is now available for TRiO students. For more information, see the blog www.stepsmcc.blogspot.com.
  • We have purchased the Hesse Nursing Review for nursing students. Limited copies are available for check out. Please stop by the office for more information.
  • Maricopa Community College Foundation Scholarships are available for 2010-2011. The deadline for applying is Friday April 9. Please take the time to see if you qualify for an of these scholarships and apply. Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play! Our English tutors can help you develop/fine tune your personal statement after Spring Break. Be sure to check it out www.maricopa.edu/foundation/apply/index.php .
  • Deadline extended! The SMCC Scholarship Process is still open until April 7! Please visit the SMCC Scholarship webpage for more information http://enroll.southmountaincc.edu/FinancialAid/ApplyForFinancialAid/Scholarships.htm. Additional available scholarships are also listed on this page. Remember, the Scholarship Committee is looking for complete answers to the questions asked on the application. Grammar, spelling and effort count! We recommend you work with our English Tutors to help you develop your answers to maximize your chances! Be sure to check the box that you are a TRIO Student.
  • We have a new, free Financial Literacy 101 program available for all STEP Students. Please go to www.financialliteracy101.org and use password SMCCSSS to login. The student password is (your Student ID#). This on-line course will take less than one hour and it will give you valuable information about how to better manage your finances. Upon completion, please print out your certificate and return a copy to the TRIO office. If you have any problems, please contact our department at (602) 305-5676. Please take the time to complete this course within the next couple of weeks.
  • Are you checking the blog regularly? If not, you could be missing out on valuable scholarships, internships, campus events, and other opportunities. We send out an email every Monday, but some weeks we get information mid-week that is posted to the blog. You should try to check it at least once a week to make sure you don’t miss any important information. Add it to your bookmarks www.stepsmcc.blogspot.com.
