STEP this week 3/8-3/12

Hello STEP Students,

We have a few announcements/events for this week:

  • Wednesday March 10 we will have an ASU Application Workshop at 12:15. If you have not yet applied for the Fall 2010 semester for ASU, you need to apply now! For those of you planning to attend ASU in future semesters, this is a great workshop to familiarize yourself with the process. Please join us!
  • The SMCC Scholarship Process is now open! Please visit the SMCC Scholarship webpage for more information http://enroll.southmountaincc.edu/FinancialAid/ApplyForFinancialAid/Scholarships.htm. Additional available scholarships are also listed on this page. Remember, the Scholarship Committee is looking for complete answers to the questions asked on the application. Grammar, spelling and effort count! We recommend you work with our English Tutors to help you develop your answers to maximize your chances!
  • We have a new, free Financial Literacy 101 program available for all STEP Students. Please go to www.financialliteracy101.org and use password SMCCSSS to login. The student password is (your Student ID#). This on-line course will take less than one hour and it will give you valuable information about how to better manage your finances. Upon completion, please print out your certificate and return a copy to the TRIO office. If you have any problems, please contact our department at (602) 305-5676. Please take the time to complete this course within the next couple of weeks.
  • Progress Reports were due February 26. If you have not yet turned in your progress report, please do so by the end of the week. If you need a Progress Report Form, please stop by the office or email me and I will send you one. Remember, to remain a participant in good standing with STEP, you must complete a Progress Report each semester.
  • Friday, March 26 U of A is sponsoring Transfer Day. You can meet with college representatives, chat with current students, and meet with scholarship and financial aid counselors. Free transportation is available for Maricopa CC students. Transportation will depart at 9:30 a.m. from 4001 N. 3rd St. Phoenix, AZ. 85012. Students need to call 602.266-0059 to reserve a spot. Please note this is not a TRiO field trip, so you will need to RSVP directly to the phone number listed above and space is limited. For more information go to http://admissions.arizona.edu/transfer.
  • Wednesdays from 11-noon Academic Advising will be doing workshops on How to Navigate your MyMaricopa account. Learn how to search and sign up for classes, request transcripts, view your grades and so much more! Workshops will be held on the following dates: March 10 and 24, April 7 and 28, and May 5 and 19. All MyMaricopa Workshops will be held in the LAC.
  • The Dorrance Scholarship is now available. A limited number of tuition scholarships are now available to single parents who have returned, or will return, to college after a break of at least one year due to family demands or other commitments.   • The TRiO Office will be open March 15-17 during Spring Break. We will be closed March 18-19.
