STEP this week 10/5-10/9

Dear STEP Students,

We have a few announcements for this week:

• Today, Wednesday October 7 we will offer a Personal Statement Workshop from 12:15 – 1:15 taught by Kevin O’Neill. Please be sure to stop by and gain some valuable insights about how to write an effective personal statement.
• Friday, October 9, we will be visiting ASU West Campus. We will meet at 7:45 and leave at 8 a.m. sharp. Please be on time! We have to be at ASU West by 9 a.m. This is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the campus and become familiar with the TRiO Department at ASU West. Space is limited.
• If you have not yet turned in your Progress Report, please do so ASAP. Remember, you signed an agreement with the STEP Program and one of the conditions of that agreement is to turn in a Progress Report every semester. Please turn it in ASAP!
• Grant Aid Applications are now available in the STEP Office. Grant Aid is additional funding available for STEP students for the Spring semester. Awards are competitive. If you received Grant Aid in the past, you will need to re-apply as Grant Aid is a one-time award. If you are currently receiving a Pell Grant, stop by the STEP Office to learn about Grant Aid. You may be eligible to receive a minimum of $890 for the Spring semester in funding from STEP in addition to your financial aid!
• We are pleased to offer evening advising every Wednesday until 7 p.m.. Laura Smith, the STEP Academic Advisor is available to help you with your academic advising needs. Please stop by the office or call Laura to set up an appointment 602.305.5683. If you are planning on graduating and transferring in the Spring 2010 or Fall 2010 it is extremely important that you come in to meet with Laura as soon as you can to get the Graduation checklist. Don’t miss out on important deadlines just because you didn’t know about them!
• If you accidentally picked up something that looks like a travel drive from the desktop computer in the STEP Conference Room, please bring it back ASAP. This small device is needed to run our new wireless keyboard and mouse. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE return this to the STEP Office at once if you find it.
• Did you know STEP has calculators, tape recorders and laptops that you can borrow? Please stop by the office to learn more about this opportunity. We may have a waitlist for the laptops, but you can get your name on the list and check one out as soon as one becomes available.
