Hello STEP Students,
We have a few announcements for this week:
- Tuesday, October 5 we will offer the Maximize Your Library Research Workshop from 12:15 to 1:15 taught by librarian Lora Largo. This is a fantastic workshop for those of you who struggle with bibliographies and citations, and will also focus on library resources. This workshop counts as one Academic Unit toward Grant Aid.
- Thursday, October 7, we will offer a U of A Application Workshop taught by U of A transfer advisor Courtney Joseph from 12:15 – 1:15. This is a great opportunity to learn what it takes to transfer to U of A. This workshop counts as one Academic Unit toward Grant Aid.
- The Hispanic Women’s Conference will be October 21-22. STEP has a limited number of tickets for students to attend. This opportunity is open to all women in the STEP Program. The Conference will have workshops on various career and success topics. Please stop by the office to secure your spot in you are interested in attending.
- Laura Smith, the STEP Academic Advisor, will be holding late hours every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. This is a great opportunity for those students taking evening classes to connect with our advisor to update check sheets, register for Spring 2010, and apply for graduation. Remember, visiting Laura counts as one Academic Unit toward Grant Aid! Please call 602.305.5676 or stop by the office to schedule an appointment.
- Grant Aid is available this semester. Grant Aid is available for STEP students who are currently receiving a Pell Grant. It is additional money that you can use for educationally related expenses in the Spring 2011 semester. Applications are available in the STEP Office. If you have never applied for Grant Aid before, you will have to go over the application process with a staff member (Sylvia, Laura, Sianna or Ruben). We strongly encourage all eligible students to apply! The application process will take you the entire semester to complete, so don’t delay in stopping by the office to learn about the requirements. Now is the time!
- Field trip forms are now available. If you are interested in attending any of the campus visits, Broadway shows, or the Hispanic Women’s Conference, please stop by to fill out the paperwork and secure your spot. Field trip forms are located in the shelves on the wall as you walk into the office. Currently, you need to fill out one form for each field trip you would like to attend.
- We are currently recruiting new STEP students. If you have a friend or relative who might be interested in STEP, please send them to our office so we can give them some information. Don’t delay – we only have a few weeks left for our fall recruitment!
- Remember, if you complete your Financial Literacy 101 on-line course and bring in your certificate, you will receive a free flash drive from STEP! Visit www.financialliteracy101.org and use the password SMCCSSS to login the New Member field.
Have a good week!
