STEP this week 3/22-3/26

Dear STEP Students,

We have a few announcements for this week:

• Tuesday, March 23 we are offering the From Stress to Success: Coping and Thriving Under Pressure Workshop from 12:15 -1:15. Please join us to learn some valuable strategies to overcoming stress.
• Maricopa Community College Foundation Scholarships are available for 2010-2011. The deadline for applying is Friday April 9. Please take the time to see if you qualify for an of these scholarships and apply. Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play! Our English tutors can help you develop/fine tune your personal statement after Spring Break. Be sure to check it out www.maricopa.edu/foundation/apply/index.php .
• We have reserved several seats for the upcoming Women’s Luncheon on Wednesday, March 24 at 11:30, open to both men and women in the STEP Program. The Luncheon is a wonderful celebration with a guest speaker and entertainment. Please email me or stop by the office to reserve your spot. This is a first-come, first-served opportunity.
• ASU Transfer Day is Thursday March 25 from 9-12:30 in the LRC Patio. Be sure to stop by to learn about majors, admissions, financial aid, and scholarships. Advisors will be available.
• From the Veteran’s Club: The Veteran’s club will have its first meeting, Thursday, March 25^th from 1:30-3:00pm in SU 100A. We are very excited about the first meeting and hope to have a good turnout. We will be brainstorming what we want to do as a club and what guest speakers we will have visit other meetings and also what activities we will do as a group as well as what we want to try and do with other veteran clubs in the district.
• The SMCC Scholarship Process is still open until April 1! Please visit the SMCC Scholarship webpage for more information http://enroll.southmountaincc.edu/FinancialAid/ApplyForFinancialAid/Scholarships.htm. Additional available scholarships are also listed on this page. Remember, the Scholarship Committee is looking for complete answers to the questions asked on the application. Grammar, spelling and effort count! We recommend you work with our English Tutors to help you develop your answers to maximize your chances!
• We have a new, free Financial Literacy 101 program available for all STEP Students. Please go to www.financialliteracy101.org and use password SMCCSSS to login. The student password is (your Student ID#). This on-line course will take less than one hour and it will give you valuable information about how to better manage your finances. Upon completion, please print out your certificate and return a copy to the TRIO office. If you have any problems, please contact our department at (602) 305-5676. Please take the time to complete this course within the next couple of weeks.
• Are you checking the blog regularly? If not, you could be missing out on valuable scholarships, internships, campus events, and other opportunities. We send out an email every Monday, but some weeks we get information mid-week that is posted to the blog. You should try to check it at least once a week to make sure you don’t miss any important information. Add it to your bookmarks www.stepsmcc.blogspot.com .
