STEP this week April 25-29

Hello STEP Students,

We have the following announcements for this week:

  • If you have not RSVP’ed for the STEP End of the Year Ceremony, please do so TODAY by emailing me back, calling 602.305.5676, or stopping by the office. All STEP students are welcome. The event will be this Thursday, April 28 from 12:00 -1:30 p.m. We will have a motivational speaker and lunch. We hope to see you there!
  • We still have tickets available for Mamma Mia! We will be attending on Thursday, May 19 from 4:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. Please stop by the office to complete field trip paperwork to secure your spot.
  • The 25th Annual MCCCD Hispanic Convocation: 25 years of Success, Celebration, and Tradition will be held on Friday, May 6 at 4:39 p.m. at Phoenix College. You must RSVP by April 22. Here is a registration link for the Hispanic Convocation online registration.
  • MCBAA cordially invites you to attend the Annual African and African American Student Convocation Sunday May 1, 2011 at Phoenix College in the Bulpitt Auditorium. Theme: College Graduation: Your Pathway to Success. The program begins at 3:00 p.m. Employees, Faculty and Adjunct Faculty are welcome to join the processional dressed in full graduation regalia.   • If you received any kind of special award, internship opportunity, scholarship, etc. please let us know so that you can be recognized in our PowerPoint presentation at the End of the Year Ceremony or a future newsletter. Please email Sianna at Sianna.Kent@smcmail.maricopa.edu.
  • Are you planning your schedule for the Fall? Please keep in mind that STEP Workshops are typically Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:15-1:15 p.m.
  • SMCC is looking for outstanding and interested students who are friendly, enthusiastic, looking for additional leadership skills, have a cumulative college GPA of 2.7, enrolled in at least 6 credit hours, are in good academic and disciplinary standing and believe in the mission of South Mountain Community College and the Cougar Ambassadors Program.   • Student Life and Leadership and the Office of Civic Participation are looking for two students who might interested in becoming an advocate for their community, attend DC conference and join an outstanding alumni network. The Student Public Policy Forum (SPPF) is an academic program that provides an overview of local, state and national public policy making, and citizen influence and involvement. A focus is placed on experiential learning and leadership development through engagement in the public policy process. No prior experience is necessary to participate. Students from all backgrounds, majors, and experiences are encouraged to apply. All interested students may contact the Student Life Office or access the SPFF web site to complete the application. http://www.maricopa.edu/sppf/about.php The application deadline is Friday April 29, 2011. All application must be submitted to the office of student life and leadership.
  • Please join us Thursday, May 5 from 11:30 to 1 p.m. in SU 100 ABC to hear Roy Juarez Jr., a motivational speaker talk about his struggles and successes. Lunch will be served.
